Double-quoted values support escapes such as \n and \", single-quoted values are kept literally, a leading export is dropped, and comment lines, blank lines and trailing # comments on unquoted values are ignored.
A .env file is a flat list of KEY=value pairs, so the JSON root must be an object whose values are strings, numbers or booleans. Nested objects and arrays show an inline error naming the key.
